Music at Whitekirk

Whitekirk Church are truly delighted and honoured to be hosting concerts for the Lammermuir festival once again this year. Whitekirk hosted Lammermuir concerts in the past but, as the church was closed temporarily, it has been a gap of a few years. It's very exciting to be back in action.

The Festival is major classical music festival that is distributed among the many historic buildings of East Lothian. It attracts some amazing international musicians and is very highly respected. Whitekirk Church is a superb venue that has most of the key ingredients of East Lothian - views of the sea, the hills and an amazing historic building.

But we are particularly proud that the acoustics in Whitekirk are so well thought of by such acclaimed musicians. 

There are 4 concerts at Whitekirk Church as part of the festival in 2025:

Earth Thy Cold Is KeenThursday 4 September 3pm

Hebrides Ensemble  Thursday 11 September 3pm

Schubert String Quintet  Saturday 13 September 7pm

Tchaikovsky String Quartets II Sunday 14 September 11am

We are very keen to host many more music events at the church. The resonance of the building particularly suits elegant, slow and simple music. Amplification is not really needed. The building could even be ideal for sound recording of live music. 

For a concert setting with a small stage at the end we can accommodate an audience of up to 230 people with good views and possibly a few more with restricted views. The altar end has a vaulted stone ceiling that adds to the resonance.

Alternatively performances could be "in the round" with the performers in the centre of the church surrounded by the audience on four sides. This could have a slightly larger audience.

The church organ continues to be regularly used and there is also a piano.
